Sometimes we get lucky

There are many ways to get through life. Some of these involve taking meticulous steps at arriving at an intended goal, some involve planning and most of the time it takes work. Really hard work executing. For some people, it is just pure luck.  Sadly for the overachievers. Luck is at play at least half of the time, or at least that is my hypothesis.

In order to show that most of the time success or greatness is a matter of luck I will have to do some really good and sound research, but until then I will summon my inner pundit and pull stats out of my ass.

Lucky source one. Family. Since we do not choose who we are born to, it is easy to claim that this one is the first.  If you are lucky and born rich you already have the resources that give you the edge.

Lucky source two. Networks.  Sometimes just the people you meet along the road of like enhance your chances of becoming great. Great networks are like family. So all of the family rules apply.

Lucky source three. Friends. Well friends are like networks and friends can introduce you to networks. So there about the same.

Lucky source four. Hardship. It is widely accepted that necessity is the mother of innovation.  Many times when shit happens to us we promise ourselves that we will be awesome. Guess what awesome people make awesome friends. And so two and three apply.

Of course there is always hard work. And sure we can all dream. But many times success is driven by luck. Or the sources of luck described above.

Fork in the road.

At a certain point we come to a point where we have to make a choice. We make this choice with the knowledge of our past and with a rough calculation of our expected outcome.

I am at that point. And I worry about the outcome. It requires work. But we can do it.

Growth therapy

I took this picture in my driveway. I own an old home. We have replaced many things in the house since we procured it, things like the heating and air condition, the windows the insulation, to name a few.  And my feelings about owning a home has evolved too. From fear ....to acceptance, to fondness.

Where am I going with this.... There are still things that need to be changed about our home. Like the driveway, or the kitchen's wall. But changing, or fixing them is about time money and the willingness and motivation to do it.
Same thing about my mental growth. These days I'm motivated.

Do people still blog for fun?

I remember the early days of blogging. I'm not sure that people do that any more. I guess with twitter and tumblr and FB, it is easier to drown our fears in observing and commenting on our friends lives.

I have just been drowning mine in work.
